‘A Real Special Milestone’: Phil D’Amato Celebrates 1,000th Winner
Oct 14, 2024 — Trainer Phil D’Amato won his 1,000th race Sunday when Wishes to Riches ($4.20) scored in the sixth race at Santa Anita under Kyle Frey. Wishes to Riches, a 3-year-old Grazen filly, was also bred and is co-owned by D’Amato.
Following the win, D’Amato was joined in the Winner’s Circle by wife Sherri, son Ryan and stepdaughter Jessica Pyfer, winner of the 2021 Eclipse Award as outstanding apprentice jockey.
“To celebrate this with the whole family is great,” D’Amato said. “I also bred this horse. He’s by one of my favorite stallions, Grazen. It’s just all really cool.”

D’Amato Closes Out Meet With a Bang
Sept 12, 2024 — Trainer Phil D’Amato’s stable was in peak form on a Saturday afternoon when temperatures reached 85. On Aug. 31, D’Amato won three graded stakes on the same day for the first time in his career.
Saturday’s trio of wins were Iron Man Cal in a maiden race for 2-year-olds at a mile on turf, Thought Process in the $103,000 Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf, and Hang the Moon in an upset in the Grade 2 John C. Mabee Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf for fillies and mares.
