In 2011, California-based trainer Mike Mitchell sent his then-assistant Philip D’Amato to England to buy a turf horse. When Mitchell retired he handed the barn and the horses, including Obviously, over to D’Amato. D’Amato said Obviously is “still that Mike Mitchell legacy that was passed on to me and he’s the barn favorite.”
