Newcomer Philip D’Amato, who took over Mike Mitchell’s stable is among the trainers with big-time horses set to compete in the Breeders’ Cup World Championships. D’Amato received his undergraduate degree from USC in Political Science and then went on to the University of Arizona and received a degree in Animal Sciences from Arizona’s Racetrack Program. Upon graduating, he worked for trainers in Florida, Kentucky and New York before meeting Mitchell. D’Amato praises Mitchell as his ultimate teacher and hopes to join in on the fun that will feature 13 Breeders Cup races scheduled for Friday and Saturday worth $26 million.
